Team Everest Hangs Tough at World Series of Poker, Three Days From Final Table

Just a half a year ago Daan Slutter and Voitto Rintalla were amateur online poker enthusiasts that played their hands at Everest Poker.

Then, in April 2008, they came to Vienna, Austria to play and audition to become one of the 13 members of Team Everest. Winning a spot on that sponsored live event poker team was only the beginning, however, and today they are now through to Day 3.

To put things in perspective, that means they are one of the 1,000 remaining players in a tournament that saw more than 6,500 players at the start. Indeed, the WSOP is the biggest poker tournament in the world, with a winner taking home over $9,000,000.

Slutter and Rintalla join fellow Everest Poker players Sylvain Coeur and Peter Vitezy, who also qualified for the WSOP Main Event with Everest Poker.

There are a few more players still in the running for Day 2B who are hoping to reach Day 3, but for now those safely through are:

Daan Slutter, 27, a student in Twente, Holland, and has only been playing poker for two and half years, has already won $8,800 in side events at WSOP but is now closing in on the $9,000,000 main prize. Daan has 77,000 chips.

Voitto Rintalla, 30, has already made the final table of a side event at WSOP bagging a cool $57,000 as well as making headlines in Vegas for his trademark contact lenses. Voitto, from Finland, is the bass player for famous rock band Random Eyes in his native Finland and aims to be the first Fin to win a WSOP bracelet – something he has already come close to doing. Voitto has 24,700 chips.

Sylvain Coeur from Grenoble, France, who has amassed a staggering 178,200 chips (the average is 70,000 chips); and Peter Vitezy from Budapest, Hungary, who sits at the 73,200 chip mark.
