Insanity in an Unlimited Rebuy Tourney
In a weekly $20 rebuy online poker tournament I play in, I could not believe what was going on during the rebuy period. The rebuys last for the first hour, 3 levels, and people are usually pretty loose. This one kid (Player A) was not only loose, but unstoppable. Good thing he wasn’t losing it at the casino. Blinds started out 25/50 and from early position, Player A raised it to 300. The very next player, Player B, raised the bet to 600. Everyone folded and Player A called the bet. The flop was: Q, 2, 4 rainbow. Player A bet out 600 and Player B moved all-in. Player A called.
Player A had, Ad, 5d. He had a gut shot straight draw with one over card to the board. Player B had K, K. So, not only was Player A raising heavy preflop with a weak suited ace, but he called a re-raise and then led out on the flop when he still had ace high, and called an all-in!
The turn came Jd. Player A now picked up a flush draw to go with his gut shot and over card. The river was a 3 and Player A hit his straight. Player B rebought.
For the next hour, Player A kept limping in with any two cards and flopping monsters with them. If he didn’t flop monsters, he turned them. I was playing tight/aggressive and not getting many cards. I was the BB with A,6 suited and 4 players limped (blinds were 50/100). I shoved for 1975 more and everyone folded. I picked up 400 chips there.
The monster ensued and kept forcing people to rebuy by playing terribly. A round later the blinds were still 50/100 and I had KK in the big blind. Again, about 5 limpers and I shoved all-in. I don’t mind winning 500 uncontested, and I would love a call from anything except AA.
One of the poker players who had a hard time folding the first time I went all-in said that he had the same hand he did last time. I told him that he should stop trying to limp with it, and he started getting greedy. He called my bet, now 2400 more than the blind.
