The History of Henry Kravis of Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co and the Environmental Defense Fund

Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co (KKR) was set up in the mid-seventies and back then their main business was in ‘bootstrap’ buyouts. Pushing beyond, in the pursuit of making the businesses in their portfolio more environmentally aware, they have set up an innovative project that has dramatically changed the way businesses and environmental activists function. Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co’s Henry Kravis and the the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) merged last year, intending to make environmentally sound business practices an accepted concept. Issues like resource depletion and exorbitant water consumption rank high on their list of goals.

Eco-efficiency (a term originally propagated by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development) stipulates their mission’s framework, through applying environmentally friendly policies like waste reduction, reducing the waste of resources and increasing the durability of products. Efficient though it was the management didn’t even realize the scope of the project’s benefits until the head of the project and global public affairs, Ken Mehlman, evaluated the program subsequent to its first year in operation.

Only at that point did Ken Mehlman find out that the program wasn’t solely lessening impact on the environment, but it was also helping to save companies a substantial sum of money. At the time of writing, KKR and Ken Mehlman have almost all of their firms actively engaged in eco-efficiency techniques. Nevertheless, when you consider that the group has a current portfolio worth 86,000,000,000 dollars, you can be sure this wasn’t an easy achievement. These two organizations along with Ken Mehlman are expanding the Green Portfolio project. The Climate Corps Program administrated by the EDF is one of these initiatives, it promotes environmentally friendly business techniques to students studying for a Master’s in Business Administration.

KKR and Ken Mehlman have taken the time to develop metrics and analytical tools which have the ability to measure and oversee various resources. With this information available, any business can examine their day to day procedures and identify precisely how they can resolve any issues while simultaneously permitting staff to determine their impact on the environment.

Henry Kravis, the KKC, and the Environmental Defense Fund have made going green more attractive for companies in every industry. So, to summarize, these systems have made green business techniques not only viable, but commercially desirable, and their radical ideas are setting a new standard in today’s community.
