Everything You Truly Want to Know about Botox Sydney

B.tox is now popular amongst up-to-date Sydney society in fact it is becoming an essential part of grooming for some people in the city. Yet I never fail to be amazed when I listen to the number of myths and half truths which surround the treatment. I have included below a selection of the urban legends that I encounter working as a physician at Star Cosmetic Medicine located in Pyrmont, Sydney.

Myth Number 1: I won’t have the ability to express myself normally!

There are about sixty muscles under the skin of your face. The excessive use of these muscles over time can result in the formation of expression lines. If excessive B.tox is injected the facial expression may become too relaxed. The amount used by most doctors are calculated to make you look refreshed, but still you will of course keep your facial expression.

Indeed a carefully measured dosage of B.tox in the appropriate site means you will get a smoothing of any wrinkles without any reduction in facial expression.

Myth Number 2: Botulinum is poisonous!
This to some extent is right. Its medical term is Botulinum Toxin Type A. An overdose can loosen facial muscles that you do not want loosened and may cause serious illness.

But to help you see the bigger picture: an old pharmacy expression is that ‘everything is poisonous – it all depends on the dose’. A large amount of any medication may result in illness. If you drink too much water it will kill you.

Myth Number 3: It will sting!
The needles used at Star Cosmetic Medicine have a diameter smaller than a human hair. Several people have likened the shots to a bug bite. Certainly not as sore as having a regular shot.

Myth Number 4: My face will lose sensation!
Totally untrue. B.tox works on the neuromuscular junction, not sensate nerves. B.tox only affects the ability to relax muscular tissues.

Myth Number 5. Once you begin getting B.tox you must keep getting it otherwise you may wrinkle faster than before!
Also false.

You can expect B.tox to be effective for in the region of 3 months. Consequent injections do last a little longer. The wrinkles will eventually reform as the muscle regains its normal function. However your wrinkles will not be more pronounced than before the treatment began.

Even if you never had B.tox injections again – those lines should be better than if you had not undergone the procedure. Due to the fact that your skin has had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ during the therapy.
