Why Select Organic for Baby Clothing? It really is easy, Organic materials of any kind are much healthier for the baby and the environment. As parents we have a responsibility for our kids wellbeing. We live in an age where we are consistently surrounded by a lot of different sorts of toxins and chemical substances. Whether it is foods, toys, apparel or perhaps the air we breathe includes many different types of germs. With some of these harmful toxins we do not have much power over as far as being exposed to them is concerned. We do have control with some issues in life such as the clothing we wear. This is where buying an item like naturally manufactured clothing for infants would make perfect sense. Infants are a lot more delicate to harmful toxins as opposed to grownups. The fact is, pesticides are utilised in cotton generation. After coffee, cotton uses the most amounts of pesticide sprays globally! To be able to increase cotton generation pesticide sprays and herbicides are utilized in great quantities. Soon after the cotton is gathered more chemicals are utilised to produce cotton fabric for instance chlorine bleach for brightening and formaldehyde for texture. To put it in perspective it takes roughly a third of a pound of chemicals to produce one T-shirt, from start to finish! Obviously all this significant use of chemicals is destroying the environment and leading to health problems for individuals. The idea behind Organic apparel of any form is to work with nature rather than against it. When a baby has on a regular item of clothing, it is easy to see with all these facts that it is damaging for their health and wellbeing. But it is not only the chemical problem that makes infants clothing unhealthy. Organic fibre is more ‘breathable’ compared to normal fibre. Hence one should use bedding materials and diapers also for the baby?s health and wellbeing. There are also clothes for instance socks and hats that are produced out of organic fabrics. When it comes to level of quality and sturdiness organic baby clothing is excellent. It will last longer in contrast to conventional clothes. It is also smoother and at times thicker in make. People who buy organic clothing are often astonished as to how long it will last, even after serious use and lot of washes. This is the reason organic fabric will cost a little bit more when compared to typical clothes. If one factors in all of the benefits then it is money well spent. Thankfully in this day and age there are several companies who are into making organic baby clothes. There are also other sorts of materials utilized for fabric. One such fabric is made from bamboo. Baby clothing made out of bamboo fibre is more absorbent compared to cotton and will not cause any type of allergies or discomfiture for the baby. Organic bamboo clothing is also very versatile, meaning it is very comfortable in both hot and gold climates. Find more information and a big selection of Organic Baby Clothing at Frugi

Safety regs must obviously be the chief consideration when acquiring a seat for your children, but the style variations aren't simply cosmetic touches, and you need to know exactly what effects your choice will carry before you make it rather than have regrets at some later point

Purchasing the fittest car seat needs a better understanding of the market than most people have, as with the different features offered by the different styles and the safety rules, the choice has real consequences. We’ll help by translating, piece by piece, the essentials to make it easier.

Cosco, Graco, Safety 1st, Disney; these and similar brands produce top quality chairs targeted at babies of up to 20 pounds or 12 months. As most – though not all – such chairs face backward exclusively, it can be crucial to make a decision and be careful when the time comes to buy that what you choose fits the way you want it to. As an added benefit you’ll discover many of the finest infant car seats can also be used as reliable baby carriers, meaning there’s no longer any need to wake up your child when moving him to or from the house. Hunting for a chair your children won’t grow too big for so swiftly? If that’s the case, you need a convertible product. Useful throughout the age bracket in which these chairs are called for, the more expensive price tag is due to their being useful for more time. As parents with experience will reveal, by and large chairs like these are less easy to carry outside the car.

Comprehension of the notable features of any given model comes from the assorted reviews and comparisons, making sure that you choose not simply the best seat but the best for your child. Choose your car chair sure in the knowledge most available reviews are independent third-party pieces.

Created to cater to growing children, the booster seat takes over for your babies at roughly the thirty to forty pound mark and will support them until they reach eighty pounds. Whether it’s via the five-point harness, or via the employment of the car’s safety belt – the booster seat fastens in one of two ways and either may be more comfortable for your little one, so it’s smart to actively check how it feels before buying. Educational and other toys are often attached to these seats, helping to keep your child quieter and occupied as you concentrate on the road.

Your budget, your family’s needs, the life you lead – these are all factors that must be addressed before buying any seat, and it’s our hope that this piece has made it quicker. As a basic rule, the reviews out there make for the most useful resource you will find.

Trying to determine the safest stroller for your child is not very easy since there are numerous options on the market now. Not only are there dozens of brands to choose from, but also many different types of strollers that vary from the light-weight umbrella stroller (or convenience stroller), to the heavier duty midsize stroller, as well as travel systems, jogging strollers, and even strollers that are designed to carry two or more children (tandem strollers).

Twenty years ago there weren’t as many options and the strollers nowadays are very different than they were then. Manufacturers are giving strollers a much more streamlined look and give you multiple selections in cloth colour and texture (some are for colder temperatures, and several have breathable material that allow for better air-flow). Theres also lots of accessories commonly available (depending on the type of stroller as well as the brand). A few of the accessories that are available for many of these strollers include some sort of sunshade or canopy, locking wheels, air filled wheels, umbrellas, cup holders, and more!

It’s much easier to travel with today’s strollers. They tend to be more lightweight (by using modern metals/aluminums or plastics) and compact. With the assistance of adapters and travel systems, some strollers are now more compatible with various car seats, depending on the brand. You should be able to fit nearly all strollers in the trunk of your car, since they fold up so nicely now. There are also jogging strollers so you can even get your exercise while walking or running with your child.

It can be mind boggling when searching for the best stroller, because of all the options that are available nowadays. Though, there are fantastic on-line resources you can go to for assistance. Consumer Reports is a great place to get started. They offer many reviews and and even rate all the different brands. There are other sites where they offer guides to help you find the perfect stroller. There is a site, click here for SeatsandStrollers.com has loads of information on strollers, car seats, and even safety tips for parents and their little ones. They also offer a free stroller buying guide when you sign up for their newsletter!

It’s crucial to do your homework and find out as much as you can about the various safety features that are available with today’s strollers. Some come with 5 point harnesses, but some just have the regular type seat belts. Brakes are another feature that you should really pay attention too. Many strollers possess 2 wheel brakes, and others only come with 1. It’s also good to try the stroller by bringing your child to the store itself and test it out on the store floor. Even if you are planning to purchase on-line (to save money – and you will), it’s good to test it out first. You can make sure it’s a good fit for your little one by testing it out first.

Frisbee Tower. Buy a bunch of mini Frisbees and place them in a pile in the middle of the yard. Have the guests carve up the Frisbees among themselves. The first player begins the activity by setting one of his or her Frisbees on the earth. Each of the following players places his or her Frisbee on top of the first Frisbee, and the action continues until someone causes the growing tower to topple.

Pick Pocket Tag. Put a strip of cloth in each player’s back pocket. Have the players try to grab each other’s strips without having their own strip taken. The player with the most cloth strips wins the game.

Kill the Cockroach. Divide the players into 2 teams. Line them up, one in front of the other and set an odd object in front of the first players in line. They must kick the object crossways the yard and the across the end line to win a point for their team. Kick things like a pillow, empty can, a sock, and so on.

Summertime means insect bites and stings. Ouch! Take a leaf from Susun S. Weed’s storehouse of natural remedies: Soothe, heal, and prevent bites with safe herbal remedies that grow right where you live: north or south, east or west, city or country. The best natural remedies for insect bites are right underfoot.

Plantain, also called ribwort, pig’s ear, and the band-aid plant, is a common weed of lawns, driveways, parks and playgrounds. Identify it by the five parallel veins running the length of each leaf. (Most leaves have a central vein with smaller ones branching out from it.) You may find broad leaf plantain (Plantago majus), with wide leaves and a tall seed head, or narrow leaf plantain (Plantago lanceolata), with long thin leaves and a small flower head that looks like a flying saucer. Many Plantago species have seeds and leaves that can be used as food or medicine. A South American variety (Plantago psyllium) is used to make Metamucil.

How to use plantain? Make a fresh leaf poultice. Pick a leaf, chew it well and put it on the bite. “Like magic” the pain, heat, and swelling – even allergic reactions – disappear, fast! (Yes, you can dry plantain leaves and carry them in your first aid kit. Chew like you would fresh leaves.)

Poultices ease pain, reduce swelling, and help heal. No wonder they’re the number one natural choice for treating insect bites, bee and wasp stings.

Mud is the oldest and simplest poultice. Powdered white clay, which should be mixed with a little water or herb tea, can be applied directly to the sting as soon as possible. Clay can be kept on hand at all times and is less likely to contain fungal spores than the real thing. Finely ground grains such as rice or oatmeal, or bland starchy substances like mallow root, grated potato, or arrowroot powder are also used as soothing poultices to ease itching and pain from insect bites.

Fresh-herb poultices are a little more complicated, but not by much. Just find a healing leaf, pluck it, chew it, and apply it directly to the sting/bite. If you wish, use a large leaf or an adhesive bandage to hold the poultice in place. Plantain, comfrey (Symphytum uplandica x), yellow dock (Rumex species), wild geranium (Geranium maculatum), wild mallow (Malva neglecta), chickweed (Stellaria media), and yarrow are only a few of the possibilities.

In the woods, you can take a leaf from a tree, chew it and apply that to the bite. Any tree will do in an emergency, but if you have a choice, the best leaves are those from witch hazel, willow, oak or maple. Play it safe: learn to recognize witch hazel (Hamamelis virginia) and willow (Salix species) leaves before you chew on them. Maple (Acer) or oak (Quercus) leaves are easier to recognize and safer to chew – unless you live where poison oak grows. If uncertain, avoid all shrubs and any trees with slick or shiny leaves. If the leaf you are chewing tastes extremely bitter or burns your mouth, spit it out at once.

To repel ticks, mosquitoes, and black flies, try a diluted tincture of yarrow (Alchellia millefolium) flowers directly on all exposed skin. A recent US Army study showed yarrow tincture to be more effective than DEET as an insect repellent.

If you’ve spent the day in an area where lyme disease is common, take a shower right away and scrub yourself with a bodybrush. Have a friend check you out for ticks. Also, it takes the tick some time to make up its mind where to bite, so most are unattached and will wash off.

“If the worst happens and I do get a bite, I help my immune system by taking a daily dose of 2-6 dropperfuls of Echinacea tincture. I avoid Goldenseal as I believe it could have adverse effects. If I have symptoms, I use a dropperful of St. Joan’s wort (Hypericum) tincture three times a day to ensure the lyme’s organism is inactive.”

Was parenting easier forty years ago?

As a mom in the new millennium, I dream about the idea of parenting in a world where streets are safe and parents can let their children run freely through the neighborhood, their bodies naturally challenged with the exercise of play.

Instead today, before the slam of the car door fades and the backpack drops on the floor, the TV is switched on and the last few hours of daylight disappear in a haze of video games and over processed snack foods.

Even the concerned, well-meaning parent can often stand helpless, wondering how to compete against marketing genius and instant gratification. Exercise and carrot sticks have a hard time competing with Xboxes, SpongeBob and potato chips.

The proof is all around us. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the health of too many North Americans is in danger because of unhealthy lifestyles. (www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity)

The latest data from the National Center for Health Statistics show that 30 percent of U.S. adults 20 years of age and older – over 60 million people – are obese. The CDC reports the percentage of young people who are overweight has more than tripled since 1980.

My kids aren’t obese – why should I be concerned?

Your kids are normal, right? You are parenting just fine. But in a world where walking is limited, school P.E. programs are being cut, and cars, elevators and buses eliminate our chance to exercise naturally, we need to make a concerted effort to make physical activity part of our day and our children’s days.

Despite all the benefits of being physically active, most Americans are sedentary. (www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity/contributing_factors.htm). Inactive children are likely to become inactive adults. (www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4596)

So as parents how can we get our kids moving?

“The American Heart Association recommends that children and adolescents participate in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day.”

The great news is exercise comes in many forms and can be a lot of fun! With a little creativity you can easily add some fun physical activity into your parenting style.

1. Lead the way

You need to set a good example. Kids, especially younger children, naturally follow their parents. So make sure you are looking after your own health and making physical activity a priority in your life.

2. Do it together

In today’s overscheduled world, we need to make sure we are spending quality time with our children. What better way than to be active together. Since kids can’t be alone roaming the neighborhood, parents need to play with them.

3. Make it fun

Put on some music and dance. Play tag. Roller blade. Basically just play. Provide them with toys and equipment that encourage them to be active while having fun.

Bikes, scooters, hockey sticks and baseball bats will get your kids moving and active. For preschool children, ride on toys that get them exercising like pedal cars, big wheels and tricycles are always a great parenting decision.

4. Cheer them on

Create positive reinforcements with encouragement and support. Help them find sports and activities that build their self esteem. Attend their sporting events and let them know you are their biggest fan whether they win or lose.

5. Turn it off

Of course, we need to limit the time our kids watch TV and play video games. But make sure you do it in a positive way. If they are angry that you just turned off their favorite show, they might not be too excited about going out rollerblading with you.

Allow screen time during designated hours, preferably after homework is done and when physical activity is finished, like in the evening or on Saturday morning when tired parents might need to catch a few extra minutes of sleep.

Adding more physical activity into your family’s routine will help you all feel better and get you having more fun together. Most importantly, as you model a healthy lifestyle you will help instill in your children lifelong habits and healthy attitudes toward exercise and physical activity.

I have a bit of a different response than most therapists to the often asked question:

“How can all this teen violence be happening?”

My questions are:

“How could this not be happening”

and

“Why doesn’t it happen even more often?”

Here’s what I mean by these questions – although there are many more factors involved, just consider these three:

1) kids listen to increasingly violent music, see increasingly violent movies and TV shows, and play increasingly violent video games. All of these without any focus on the real life, long term consequences of violence.

2) kids have more and more easy access to weapons that can maim and kill

3) more and more kids get no moral education, and walk around with an underdeveloped conscious at best, and at worst, no conscious at all.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or a psychologist to get it that these three ingredients alone are a prescription for disaster.

Warning signs

No one really knows exactly why one kid will snap and another one won’t. At the same time, here a few warning signs for parents and others to watch for:

a history and enjoyment of violent behavior

an inability to feel and/or show remorse

excessive fascination with violent video games and movies

easy access to weapons

little or no parental/adult supervision

little or no impulse control

recent rejections, disappointments or loss of hope

violent and/or suicidal thoughts, threats or other speech

the loss of someone close, either through death, a move, or a break up

a friend or someone they look up to taking a recent violent action

Again, it’s important to remember that kid A could have most or all of these signs and become violent, while kid B could have the same signs and not go off. The most important question to answer, I believe, is what can we do to prevent this kind of stuff in our kids.

Here are a few suggestions:

Know your kid’s world. I realize every parent thinks they know the world of their kid, but do you really? Do you know what kind of lyrics and music is going into their brains all day? Have you looked at the lyrics? Do you know what games they play, what movies they watch? Are you sure? The reason I am so adamant about this is I believe that if enough parents really knew what was going on out there, the stuff I hear every day, there would be some type of revolution.

In the words of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, “teach your children well.” Teach them:

when someone is beaten up or severely hurt, it takes a long time to heal, physically and emotionally

when someone is killed, they are gone, do not come back, and people grieve their loss

if you get hit like guys get hit on TV wrestling, you don’t get up, you go to the hospital

how to problem solve without violence

what to do with the anger and rage we all experience.

And last but not least, run, don’t walk, to your nearest bookstore and pick up a copy of Stephen Glenn’s book “Raising Self-Reliant Children in a Self-Indulgent World.” In it you will find the results of Glenn’s research into the problems of youth, the Significant Seven Factors that separate high risk kids from low risk kids and how to encourage them in your family.
